First, the book is talking about a village that had terrible events that happened. Children were killed.
Once, the brother of Bill has been killed, since then, he couldn't talk normaly.
A group of six boys and a girl, was friends, and began to hallucinate.
They dreamed about a clown that they named ''It''.
Lately, they knew that he was the murderer of all the children.
Since them, they were trying to make a plan to kill him, but they wanted to survive too.
They were about to kill him, but he could run away.
They made a promise, if a day he is back, they'll all kill him.
Since then, the children left the vilage, exept one of them.
The ones who left didn't remember anything.
One day, the boy who stayed called them all to tell them that ''He'' were back.
One of the boys killed himself.
The others came back to the vilage and tried to remember everything.
The thing was that they were adults now, and they were scared.
That gave to the clown more power.
But at least, they could kill him, and all of this was deleted of their memory.
