1.the stereotypes are :
- the cowboy riding in the sunset
- good guys vs bad guys
- the "savage" nation
- the brave men going west
- the whites : progressive
- tne indians : victims
2. in the past good guys were the pionneers going west to establish themselves
bad guys were the indians or some crooked white ones
today, the Indians are re-established considering what thery have been through. They are called amerindians or american-indians. they are a recognized nation ideologically, geographically where some lands have been given back and even politically.
3. they were expecting to find and own land easily and grantedly. Live by their own rules. they wanted to make fortunes if possible and start it all again. Some were looking for gold
4. Reality was very different : the land was bigger than expected, the frontier getting further away. there was the hardship of the lands, locals (indians) to deal with, rivalities even within their communities. It was much harder than expected.
5. it means that the multi cultural cultures helped build a melting pot kind of society. It gives the nation a base on hardwork, courage, unity and being brave. If you work hard you can succeed.
