According to studies, 90 % of French girls from 8 to 10 years have at least a Barbie, 100%of american girls from 6 to 11 years have at least a barbie. Nowadays, her website accounts 18 millions memberes around the world, 75 results in google include the term « Barbie », 500 000 persons are subscribed to the magazine Barbie, and more then 4 millions of dolls are solded in France every year. We wonder if Barbie is a bad influence on girls. To answer this question two lines are analysable. One first part about the good influences of Barbie, another part about the bad influences of Barbie.


To my mind , Barbie has a good influence on girls.
-First, because she is represented with 130 trades like doctor,singer, Fashion designer, stewardess on Américan Airline, businesswoman, photographer, actress, professor of deaf and dumb language, pediatrician of the premature babies... I think it's an awesome idea, it would help children to open their eyes in the diffrent jobs that existe in the world and to have an idea about what they want to be. More over it's a symbolic thing , she embodies the figure of the woman who can work and don't spend her life in home and just take care about her husband and her kids. Effectivement, Barbie is an important women symbol, because she appeared in 60th century, In full post-war period, of transition and modernity. A time marked by a feminine revolution in which the women looked out for equality with the men. In 1971 appeared Barbie Malibu, who had her own car, and in 1985, the «Day to night barbie» went out. She was an businesswoman in crossed pink tailor, her severe dress can however be transformed into a charming night outfit . The woman is so,represented as a new women: Confident with a lot of Projets, commited in her work with a part of madness showing its self in the night. We are assisting to a diversification of the role of the woman.
Then, Barbie is not just a white girl with blue eyes and long, blond platinum hair. we can find an asian barbie (with the long, black hair, restrained eyes, white and pale skin and the hanfu ), an african Barbie (with black skin, brown eyes and black curly hair), an indian barbie ( with black eyebrows, orangy skin, long thick dark hair, and an indian traditional dress consistued of a sari decorated with turbans, shawls and numerous jewels) and auther origines. From my point of view, it's an incredible idea, because it may reduce discrimination and racisim, and help kids to love each other even if they are from different origin, also Barbie is a representative model of the typical woman of every country.
