Dear Mum, How are you and Gran? Has Daisy been a good dog since I left? As for me, I am quite well. We had a very nice journey. The ladies on the train handed out sweets and allowed us to gorge on them on condition that we leave them in peace. The view from the train was absolutely amazing! We could see rolling hills of green fields, and from time to time a herd of cows grazing in the grass. When we finally arrived, we were told to stand quietly while our names were called out. My host family eventually found me and I quickly bonded with the one of the children. His name is John and he is 12 years old - like me! We have other hobbies in common, like playing football, or pretending to be soldiers in the war. Their house is really nice and cozy. The mother - Mrs Brown - is a terrific cook: she makes the best scones, even with the little ingredients we have due to rationing. I attended the village school on Tuesday. It seems like a good school; the teachers are strict but they explain well, and my new classmates want to know all about London and my life. They asked me whether I have ever seen a cow in real! The people here are extremely friendly and open l, so I expect I shall fit in very soon. Please say hello to Granny and Daisy for me. Love, George
