This picture was taken by Margaret Bourke-White in 1937. It marked the spirits because we see the bottom of African Americans lining up behind them and this is a large advertising panel on which is shown a typical American white family in a car . The slogan "There's no way like the American way" is not credible because experienced by African Americans actually contradicts advertisingm.
françaisThe photographer to draw attention to this photo using white and black areas. The top of the picture features the white family that represents the ideal American family, the American dream. It shows the father, mother, son, daughter and even a dog in their beautiful shiny car is happy to drive into the future. This photography is represented with lighter contrast, with bright areas and occupies the upper two thirds of the photo, and features the slogan in white. While down, darker, represents African Americans in a waiting girl in dark dress, which are far from knowing that happiness.
There is a big difference between the top and bottom of the picture on two different social classes and different races with different standards of living, what Margaret Bourke-White has managed to highlight through the contrast of black color and white. The white contrasts to the white family, and black contrasts for African Americans are the only similarities in this photo.
françaisWhat the photograph wanted to show is that American life is not as it describes it and that the United States can provide the highest standard of living in some, but not all.
