Time out is one of my favorite movies of all time…
and I can assure you I've seen quite a lot of them in my life. Being a sci-fi, Time out was rather well pulled off. This is the storyline:
In 2161, time replaces money. Thanks to genetic medecine, immortality has become a reality.
At 25 years old, you'll stop aging physically, but there's a price to pay: an internal clock located on your left arm goes off. And you have one year before the countdown starts...
From now on everything has to be bought with time, and that's when you need to get a job to earn more time and, by doing so, avoid your clock reaching zero (and you dying instantly). Will Salas and his mother are having a hard time getting by, one day at a time... People like this are easily noticeable, as they are always in a hurry.
But soon his mother loses all of her time: she dies. Will crosses paths with a wealthy man from one of the nicer districts of New Greenwich. He is desperate, he can't stand to be immortal anymore and decides to commit suicide. But before doing so, he gives Will all of his remaining time. Will finds himself with a couple of hundred years on his hand. But still set on avenging his mother, he leaves for New Greenwich with ambitions to make time accessible to the helpless. For this he will be tracked and hunted by the Time police.
This scene shows us that, nevertheless, it's necessary to have money. It also shows us that we can buy time, moreover life, with money. But this remains impossible to this day, and I hope it stays this way because the consequences could be serious (and irreversible).
