I am going to talk about the notion myths and heroes . First of all I would like to give a definition of this notion : a myth can be defined as a popular story and a hero is a person admired for his achievements, noble qualities and great courage.
We may answer the following question : does a hero for some can be a villain for others ?
To illustrate this notion I have chosen three documents : the first is a video about the notion of hero, the second document is an article about Edward Snowden and the third is an article about Fidel Castro.
My first document is a video about the notion of hero, there is an epic music during this video and even though we can see some scenes of Marvel’s films, this video show us that we don’t need to have great power as in a Marvel’s film to be a hero because being a hero mean that you can make good choice in your life and that you can make what is right. And a hero can be a model for the population by his numerous good actions.
My second document is an article about Edward Snowden from USA today in 2003. In this article he denounces the fact that the NSA spies on everyone, and that she doesn’t obey law. But for his action, he isn’t regarded as a hero by everyone, some say that what he has make is really dangerous for the national security and others think that it’s great that he denounced the abuses of the NSA. Moreover he risked his life to reveal this secret, this information openly, so he showed great courage.
And like for Snowden, with Fidel Castro we face the dilemma. Fidel Castro, former President of Cuba, was a controversial figure of the twentieth century. To some, he was a revolutionary hero who saved his people from the evils of capitalist United States. And he has been described by his supporters as a champion of anti-imperialism, humanitarianism, socialism, and the environment. But to others like Western countries, he was a brutal dictator who ruthlessly control his people from more than 50 years, namely he oversaw numerous human rights violations inflicted on the people of Cuba, while he lived in the luxury.
In conclusion, we can say so that the idea of a hero is specific to each one which means that a hero as Snowden can being seen like a traitor. On top of that the main thing about a hero is not only his acts but also his personality. Be a hero doesn’t mean play in a Marvel’s film and have great powers. And we can say that everybody can be a hero and if you want to be a hero you have just to make the good chooses in your life.
