Bonjour, je passe un oral d'anglais jeudi et j'ai préparé mon texte même si je pense que j'improviserai (pas très conseillé en effet). J'aimerais cependant que vous le regardiez et que vous me disiez s'il y a des fautes. Merci d'avance.
The myth evokes the human condition as a whole, its history transmitted first orally and often embodied by a hero, a situation or a community. While a hero is a person who realizes actions for humanity through his efforts and courage. He risks his life for a cause or for defending an ideology. Very often, these two terms intertwine. In this notion "myths and heroes" I will answer the following question: How can an ordinary person can be a hero ? With three document studied in class, I will speak of a photography, namely Afghan girl by McCurry, an extract from Macbeth by Shakespear, more precisely act1 secne 5, and an another extract of the African Short Stories by Leonard Kibera.
Afghan Girl is a 1984 photographic portrait by journalist Steve McCurry which appeared on the June 1985 cover of National Geographic. The image is of a young woman with green eyes in a red headscarf looking intensely at the camera. The image became "emblematic", he was one of the Afghan refugees who were seeking refuge in Pakistan, courtesy Soviet Union taking over the country in 1985.This ordinary girl was chosen by the photographer because his eyes were intense for him, just for this. She had done nothing exceptional before. And today, this woman is known throughout the world through this image and represents Afghan's people during war thanks to McCurry. She featured as the cover for the National Geography Documentary of the Afghanistan plight after going through a series of serial blasts, killings of loved ones. Her name was Sharbat Gula. She was called 'The Third Monalisa because this portrait recalls the famous mona lisa framework of Leonardo DeVinci. Even if she lost her family she was able to continue and that is why she is a heroine
In the story of Kibera, a young teacher in Kenya meet a white supervisor in classroom. The main characters, Lois, defends black people's rights in Kenya, by reacting to the behavior of the white lady. In fact, the white supervisor is shocked by the behavior of children: they reply that their contry is a colony and in return, she slap the shy teacher. In the village this women become a hero, she did not let hirself and difended his people. We have here a young black woman who is shy, who knew how to rebel with courage and for this, the villagers consider her as a heroine despite the fact that she was arrested and imprisoned. This history is considered like a myth for all of us because she was able to face the authority of the British Empire
Lady Macbeth is a character in Shakespeare's "Macbeth" and is the most well known of his female characters. Macbeth would be considered the tragic hero of the play but there is no doubt that Lady Macbeth is a tragic figure also. The definition of a tragic hero extends well beyond the assumption of a heroic figure with a tragic ending. She is a loyal and devoted wife and will do anything to fulfill the witches' prophecy of kingship. In Act 1 Scene 5 when she is introduced to the audience her famous raven speech where she calls on spiritis proves that she is strong but willing to sacrifice herself for her husband. At the end of the play, in Act 1 Scene 5 she is a shadow of her former self. She is unable to sleep and is seen walking and talking in her sleep. Her death at the end of the play is ammbiguous and we do not know if she has committed suicide, but there can be no doubt that her involvement in the murder of Duncan and her growing estrangement for her husband have affected her deeply and this is why she is a tragic hero in this play.
In this three exemple, all protagonist are women. It is a good point to say that even a woman can embody the role of a hero, this role is not only for men. We certainly wonder woman as a fictional character but we can not limit ourselves to this. So everybody can be a hero, a child, a men, even a animal. We can be ourselves heroes, and in my case, my parents are heroes because they sacrificed a lot of things for me and my brothers and sister.
