Body language is what we say without speaking. When we frown we communicate displeasure and when we smile we say we are happy or amused but body language goes further than this. A tilt of the head or a gesture with your hands give signals to anyone watching that we somehow interpret as almost an instinct. When we are nervous and would appear brave our body language can give us away. The same applies when we are being dishonest.
Our body language says more than words. Studies suggest that the majority of communication between humans is conducted non-verbally. If you have ever met somebody that says one thing and yet makes you feel uncomfortable or distrust them it is likely you are reading their body language. Some examples are when people cross their arms during conversation they are feeling defensive, When someone crosses their legs towards you they like you and when they cross them away from you they do not, When you inadvertently scratch your eye and the person you are with does the same unconsciously it is called mirroring and that is a genuine reaction to the body language of the person you are concentrating on.
Next time you meet someone take note of how they are behaving as much as you do their words and see if they match.
