I believe that the world can improve the quality of our lives in terms of arts, sciences, technology or liberty.
Progress implies some evolution from an old order (with traditions) to a new order but it wouldn't be well-accepted by all because some people wouldn't be comfortable with the changes being made.
There are many kinds of progress but i chose the social progress. I will tackle this theme throughout the evolution of the customs over the time
How does the evolution of society influence the customs / status of women and seniors?
I will begin with an insight into the Sufragettes film by Sarah Gravon detailing the push for women's suffrage in the United Kingdom in 1911-13. After that, I will be analysing Malala's history and to conclude, I'm going to talk about the apparition of a funny event : the senior citizen blogger.
Development :
In class, we have been focused on the evolution of the society relative to the women who were considered as inferior to men. As we can see in the movie, the Sufragettes is a group of women who are fighting for their right of vote.
We can also see the 20th century's lifestyle of these « irrespected » women. They were working very hard in the laundries where their chiefs exploit them. When they returned to their home, their husbands told them (us?) that women’s role is to be a good mother and and to satisfy their husband’s desires.
Although they have overcome many obstacles, they continue to fight with the hope of the society’s evolving in their favor.
Unfortunately, even if some situations have changed in some countries , some others still keep a delicate status about this. As Pakistan where women’s situation is really hard since years ago and with the evolving of the attacks since 2000 and invasions, it just aggravates the problem ! And this situation is represented in the portrait of the « girl blogger » whose nickname is Malala Yousafzai who we can compare to the sufraggette . Why ? My impression is that even if she’s alone (not in a group like the sufragettes ) and doesn’t fight for the same subject, she’s fighting for women’s rights. In 2009, Talibans controlled a part of Pakistan in making their own sexist rules : « they banned women from going to the market and shopping ». They even took the assault of a schoolbus and shot childrens like her, when she was only 12. But as the suffragette, she found the courage to testify, address herself and commit to the rights of women’s education and even received peace nobel prize for that.
To conclude, we are going to focus on the senior citizen blog who is famous especially in Vancouver , Chicago. This (chercher nom dossier) show us that there is an evolution of senior’s hobbies . After the 20th century, senior’s hobbies were, for the main part, playing « bingo, needle point etc… » but now there is a real advance. Some seniors want to take part in the evolving of the society . So alone or with the help of others (?), they began to write a blog about what they were liking in life as a new hobbit. Now in their family, I suppose that between the grandparents and their grandchildren, they will have more proximity because they will have more common points . I think that grandparents are also going to feel younger !
So to recap, I’d like to wind up by saying that we can’t ignore the evolution of our society. Some women fought for us and I think that it's our work to continue theirs. In 2018n we are not completely free and it's not right ! Nothing is impossible like seniors who try to change their status of « people who can’t do anything modern » , we must be courageous !
