Charles John Huffman Dickens, born in Landport near Portsmouth, Hamsphire in shouthern England, on February 7, 1812 and died at Gad's Hill Place in Hingham, Kent on June 9, 1870 (at 58 years), is considered the greatest novelistof the Victorian era. From his earliest writings, he became immensely famous, his popularity growing throughout his publications.
