Four centuries ago, 66% of the land was covered with forest, today, only a third. While in 1990 forests covered about 4.128 billion hectares or 31.6 per cent of the world's land area, by 2015 they covered only 3.999 billion hectares or 30.6 per cent, according to FAO's 2015 report.According to the World Resources Institute, 80% of the original global forest cover has been felled or degraded, mostly in the last 30 years.Far from decreasing, deforestation even broke a record in 2016 with the loss of 30 million hectares of forest, double the already alarming rate in 2014 or 2015. I don't like deforestation because it kills trees and without trees there is less and less oxygen.
