I- SCOTLAND YARD

- What is it ? = The London Police

- date of creation = 1829

- name of its creator = Sir Robert Peel

- consequence .. = they (the policemen) were nicknamed (surnommés) "bobbies") (short name for Robert) or "peelers" because of his last name.

- its adress - front = 4 Whitehall Place

                    - rear = Great Scorland Yard street

- consequence... = The rear adress became the name of the police activity

- 2 of its mission = protection of imortant individuals

                               community patrols (for the prevention of crimes)

- number and year = 3,200 policemen in 1830

- an adjective ... = uncomfortable

- why ? = because as policemen were a lot, people thought they were surrounded by spies (the number of policemen was so big, people felt being spied)

- 2 reasons = - they arrested murderers as Jack the Ripper, for example    

                      - the charisma of many detectives      


II- JACK THE RIPPER      

- who = a real criminal

- occupation = serial killer

- date of activity = 1888            

- location = London

- where = Whitechapel, East-End

- who = a fictionnal character

- adjective....= frightening

- why = because he knew a little too much

- name a strange caracteristic  = he had a curious sense of humour


IV-  AGATHA CHRISTIE

- who ? = a detective story writer

- give - literary genre = Golden Age of crime

          - another person = Dorothy L.Sayers

          - her nickname = the Queen of Crime

           - 2 of her heroes = Miss Marple  , Hercule Poirot


V- DEFINITIONS IN FRENCH

1- rear = arrière

2- nickname = surnom

3- uncomfortable = mal Ă  l'aise (incomfortable)

4- spies = espions

8- murder = meurtre

9- short novel = nouvelle (dans le contexte du texte). Littéralement = roman court
