Steve Fossett, born April 22, 1944 in Jackson and died on September 3, 2007 from a plane crash while flying over the Nevada Desert, is a businessman, sailor, airman and American adventurer.Fossett grew up in Garden Grove, California. In 1966 he graduated from Stanford University, and in 1968 he received his MBA from the Olin School of Business at Washington University in Saint Louis, Missouri, where he was a member of the supervisory board. Fossett then became a commodity trader on the Chicago market, creating its own company, Marathon Securities, which was a great success. Fossett makes a fortune in financial services and accesses celebrity thanks to its five non-stop world tours: solo balloon, crewed boat and solo plane. Fossett sets 115 records in five disciplines, 59 of which are still valid. On 03 September 2007, he disappeared during an airplane flight that he was flying over the desert.
