The captain Merriwether Lewis and his close friend William Clack crossed the western part of the United State , leaving from Saint Louis (Missouri) to the Pacific coast. "The Lewis and Clarck expedition" , known as well as "The Corps of Discovery Expedition" began in May 1804 till Septembet 1806.
The objectives were to discover this unknown land, study its geography, its wildlife (animals, plants...) and establish a contact with native people.
Thomas Jefferson, third president of the United States, convinced the Congress to raise funds (around 2.500 US dollars from this period) for this expedition.
