They must've walked for about a kilometer, when Kael glanced over his shoulder.
"Uh, Dad ?" He gulped.
His father kept on walking. "What?"
Silence.
Finally, he turned to look at his son. His jaw almost dropped to the ground. Where they had been just a minute ago stood a not-so-tiny grizzly bear cub.
His mind was blank, as if somebody had wiped it clean. It was only when the cub was less than ten meters away from his own son that he snapped back to reality. Bear cub... seeing a bear cub could only mean that its mother wasn't too far. And he was willing to bet it wouldn't take her long to find them, either.
"Kael, run !"
And, for once, the boy didn't have to be told twice.
