Merci beaucoup d'avance !

In the thematic « Meeting the other love and friendship » we studies the sequence about The Odd couple. I would first begin by defining what an odd couple is. That notion refers to a relationship (romantic or not) or a love affair involving two persons who are completely different from each other and who will never get along under other circumstances. Their mood, character or temper are opposite: one of them may be outgoing and the other one is introvert although there are normally several distinct differences between the two partners to have the term "odd couple" used to describe a specific, weird and strong relationship. Now that we defined the term of 'odd couple', we can ask the following question: Can birds of a different feather flock together?
Well, i will introduce different extracts studied during the class and a relevant document chosen by myself related to the topic.

So first of all, we have seen in class the document « boon companions » excerpt from the novel entitled Timbuktu which was written by Paul Auster in 1999. In this story the narrator has chosen a dog’s point of view to tell the story of Mr Bones and his master a homeless poet whose name is Willy G. Christmas. In this excerpt this extraordinary dog thinks about his relationship with Willy, mediates upon his extravagant master’s soliloquies and wonders anxiously about what his situation will be after his partner’s death. The idea of odd couple is well-represented in this document as a man seems to have found a best friend in a dog. Dogs are said to be men’s best fried, but in this case their relationship is even stronger as they both depends one another

Furthermore We find also a strong relationship with Georges and Lennie with the document Guys like us excerpt from the novel Of mice and men written by John Steinback in 1937. Indeed, due to his mild mental disability, Lennie completely depends upon Georges, her friend and traveling companion, for guidance and protection. They have the same dream, and they live, together a hard life. At first , it may seem as though the couple is unbalanced because George has to think and act for both of them. Yet there is mutual dependency in their couple, which is the basis for sharing their dream. They are alone in the world and their lives are bound up together. So it’s for that that we can say that this novel is a good example of what an odd couple is since it is about a friendship between two men very different by their personality.

To continued, The myth of King Kong, and more precisely the film of Peter Jackson on 2005 represent like Timbuktu a beautiful relationship between a human and an animal. King Kong is a terrible monster, an enormous gorilla who reign over an island. Al opposite Ann Darrow is a young actress who dream to be famous, money and strass. We can’t determinate if they fall in love for each other, or if it’s just a friendship, but they are so close. They helped each other, Ann need him to save her to the monsters of Skull Island, Kong need her to protect and save him of slavery, zoos and killers. They live a passion story and show how much we can appreciate something or somebody just thank’s to her personality and not for a physical appearance.

To conclude, we can say that differences can be a big strength in the life. All the odd couple are based on the concept that « birds of a feather flock together » and it’s for that that their relationship are stronger that a normal relationship. Unfortunately, because of these differences, the odd couple that i mentioned can’t last a lifetime. In these three stories, one of the two character die, and the other stands alone. So differences create love, friendship but also the sadness.
