Muhammad Ali was a well known boxer who won several World Champion titles. He was in the past called Cassius Clay, but changed his name to Mohammed Ali after converting to Islam.
His career : In 1964, Ali refused to help the United States Army during the Vietnam War. To justify his actions, he said: “War is against the teaching of the Holy Koran. I’m not trying to dodge the draft. We are not supposed to take part in no wars unless declared by Allah or the Messenger. We don’t take part Christian wars or wars of any unbelievers”. Because of his refusal, Mohammed Ali had to return his titles and was suspended for three years. During this time, Ali organized conventions to talk about his convictions. With the help of a Senator, Muhammad Ali was able to fight again in March 1971, against a boxer called Frazier. This fight was considered as "The fight of the century" but unfortunately, Ali lost. This was his first defeat since the beginning of his career. After this fight, Ali suffered from injuries and was forced to take a break. In 1974, he fought in a new legendary fight called “Rumble in the Jungle”. This fight took place in Africa in Zaire and Ali won the match.
Conclusion : Ali took his retirement after being diagnosed with Parkinson, and he is now considered as a boxing legend. In 2005, former US President George W. Bush rewarded Mohamed Ali with the Liberty Medal, which is the highest civilian honor in the United States. He also supported the "Make a Wish" foundation and the Special Olympics.
