Conan Arthur Doyle is a British writer and physician born May 22, 1859 and died July 7, 1930 of the 19th century. he is from the Victorian era during the reign of Queen Victoria in 1837.He is famous for its novel staging the adventures of Detective Sherlock Holmes. Here I am going to study a short story by Sherlock Holmes "the Greek interpreter" who appeared in 1893, 6 years after the first novel appeared in 1887. One day, Mr. Melas is questioned by a mysterious man named Lamtier who asks his translator to translate a conversation. Melas arrives on the scene and discovers a disfigured man, he learns that this man was kidnapped. Mr. Melas asks for Sherlock Holmes to elucidate this matter. The mystery of this affair is that Paul was kidnapped to sign an inheritance agreement between Lamtier and Paul's sister, Sophie. In the end, Paul is killed in a gas poisoning while the bandits have run away. Our heroes learn from the paper that Sophie killed the two bandits.
I decided to focus on part 1 and 2 of the text. This history is representative of the Victorian era as it presents several real places of the 19th century. Like the Pall Mall, the neighborhood where Sherlock Holmes' brother, Mycroft resides. The diogenic club which is a fictional club is a gentleman's club, an association of men of high society scholars and philanthropists who exploded in 1880. Or the Carlton Hotel, a hotel in London. Arthur Conan Doyle has taken over existing places to better integrate us into this story. The Victorian era is well represented by Sherlock and Watson's interest in science. Knowing that in the 19th century, researchers became passionate about science and made important advances, such as the invention of the telephone, the discovery of microbes and the steam engine that entered the industrial revolution Victorian era in which Sherlock Holmes evolves. One learns in part two, the colonization of India by the English which was made from 1757 to 1947. And some very popular places like the shopping street of Ofxord Street. Several writers of the 19th century wrote novels like Conan Doyle notably the writer William Wilkie Collins who is famous for his book "La Pierre de Lune" or "double assassination in the street of Morgue" of Edgar Allan Poe.
Finally, this story is representative of the era of Conan Doyle, therefore of the 19th century because there are several characteristics of this era as places and events.
