This document is about arranged marriages of very young girls in India.
In this document, the young girl seems to be strong and determined. She doesn' agree with the idea of being inspected by a prospective bridegroom. She'd rather do the opposite. Later on we'll learn she is only 13 years old....
But that the way things have to be done. And she was finally persuaded. But during all the time spent to be decked with jewels all over, and then clad in her sari, she tries to stay cold minded, feeling she's going to loose her identity.
Despite her young age, she is extremely mature and knows what is good for her and what she should do in life (should but not would (devrait mais ne fera pas)..... that is very different !). She's scared to look like a doll, being admired and it threatens her.
She seems well educated but traditions remain very strongly as the last sentence says : it's hard to get a bridegroom, so when one is available he is treated as a hard-won prize.
