I (be) was born a slave in 1820 on a plantation in Georgia.When I (be) was a child I(have) had to work in the cotton fields from sunrise to sunset. Working in the fields (be) was so exhausting!When I (not work) didn't worked fast enough, I (beat) was bitten or whipped. I (allow)was.only allowed one day off a month.I (allow)was allowed to go to church but I (forbid) was forbade to learn how to read or write. I don’t know how I (survive) survived this... It (be) was a living hell. At the age of 10, I (sell) was sold to another slave owner and I (separate)was separatedfrom my family. I (be)was extremely sad and frightened.I (be) was only 10 but I (force)was forced to work as a nursemaid and I (have) had to look after children. Later, in 1840, for no reason at all, one of my friends (shoot) shooted and he (fall) fell* on the ground. I (be) was terrified. I suppose the slave owner (want) wanted to terrify us. We (be) were desperate.We (have) had to sleep in a very small hut and we (be) were cramped. We (have) had to sleep on wooden planks. It (be) was really terrible.A lot of people (be) was sick and they (die) diedWe (give) gave one pair of shoes and three items of underwear a year. We (have) had to wear uncomfortable clothes. Our living conditions were inhuman.The Civil War (break up) broke up in 1961.Three years later, in 1964, I (decide) dedided to escape. It (be) was very dangerous but I (run away) ran away from the plantation so I (become) became a fugitive. * A reward (promise) was promised to people catching me.Fortunately, I ( use) used the "underground railroad" , a system for helping and hiding fugitive slaves. People (give) gave me food and money so I finally (*succeed) succeeded in going up North. In 1965, slavery (abolish) was abolished so I (be) was free at last! Then, I (find) found a job as a seamstress in Chicago, I (get married) got married and we(have) 3 children.
