The first European with a permanent settlement in South Africa was The Dutch (named Boers). In 1652, Dutch East Indian Company (with Jan Van Riebeeck) established a supply station on a place that later became a big city: Cape Town.
In 1886 was discovered gold in Johannesburg, making this city a rich city.
Between 1899 and 1902 was the war between the British and the Dutch settlers when the British won this war.
In 1994 was the first election in which all races were to vote and Nelson Mandela was elected President.
In 1995 South Africa hosted and won the Rugby World Cup Tournament and in 2010 hosted the World Cup Soccer Tournament.
