Hello
In my opinion :
Today, I am going to talk about spaces and exchanges.
An exchange is a movement or circulation, by example for people we can find immigration, trade, media, communication…
A space is a geographical area limited by borders.
To illustrate these notions, I will talk about the different waves in America since the nineteenth century.
At first, I wonder why people have immigrated to the USA .
To begin, I will reflect on the history and the causes of immigration, then I will talk about people motivations. Finally, I will tackle the consequences of this immigration.
What are the immigration causes? The immigration began during the sixteenth century after the discovery of Christophe Colomb. European people lived on the east coast. Then the slavery began. Several millions of West Africans were forced to come in USA to work on sugar and cotton plantations.
The slavery allowed to make rich countries as France, Spain, Britain. It was the beginning of immigration. Later, there have been different waves of immigration. More exactly three, as indicates the document « Waves of immigration to the US » who is an oral comprehension
While the nineteenth century , the Europeans suffered of privation, because of potato lack, especially in Northern Europe as Ireland.
After the death of many people, the Irish began to immigrate to USA. They will become factory workers and they will contribute to develop the country. America became then « America land », because more and more people immigrated , the country was seen as « The Promise land ».
There were a lot of work, and people thought to have better living conditions with prospects. They believed that they would live American Dream. Most people who immigrated were poor, they wanted to avoid the scratch. But some immigrated for other reasons.
To illustrate this idea, I would refer to a text from « Lations : crossing borderlands ». It’s the story of a girl, Josseline, who was 14 years old, and with her brother, they wanted to go in Los Angeles because their mother was already there.
So they started a long and dangerous travel, and Josseline fell sick during it. We can think that Josseline died before she found her mother. This text shows that the people immigrated for other reasons. Furthermore, it shows that the travel was very long and dangerous. So there were surely a lot of people who died in these conditions.
