Nelson Mandela crée en 1999 la Fondation Nelson Mandela et se consacre à la lutte contre le sida après la mort de son fils a l'âge  de 25 ans en 2005

La mort de nelson mandela et survenu le 5 décembre 2013 a son domicile a johannaburrt a l'âge de 95 ans il et mort à une suite d'une longue infection respiratoire
